Shanghai GTL Biotech Co., Ltd. (GTL Biotech) founded in 2015, which is focused in the commercialization of the Bio-Gas To Liquid fuel technology officially licensed from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The core technology is the engineered microorganisms based on Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology. The engineered microbes are capable of converting industrial flue gas, containing carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and  carbon monoxide, etc., to high value-added protein and biofuels.

The industrial off-gas (containing H₂、CO、CO₂) in the coal plant, steel mill, and other heavy chemical plants is often treated as waste gas because of the low utilization value, which leads to a vast waste of the resources.  The GTL Biotechnology, which applies the engineered microbes via the fermentation technology, is capable of transforming the low value industrial off-gas into high value-added single cell protein and biofuels.
